Cases of industrialization creating wealth disparities in urban cities are prevalent in China and I hope to use journalism to shed light on the economic problems in order to improve the lives of the people who are displaced by these economic forces. The country’s current developmental stage determines the social problems it has to deal with. From environmental pollution management to allocation of educational resources, media can exert influence on a wide range of social issues by identifying problems, verifying facts, and informing the public. Despite the challenges of operating under China’s restrictive censorship, a group of journalists are striving to tell the stories that are concerned with the public interest. I am motivated to join the army of reporting on general and social issues.
